I'm Alice and, at 26, I am currently the youngest member of the happiness group - but age really doesn't matter when you're amongst good company. And the ladies who attend HEY happiness group are certainly good company!
I mainly attended the first meeting just to be a bit nosey. I couldn't imagine what type of things we would do or how many people would attend something called a happiness group. I'd certainly never heard of Gretchen Rubin (the author of the self help book this group is based on). But I am currently on the long road to recovery from severe depression and so am on a bit of a personal quest to increase my own happiness levels in any way I can. So I put aside any fear of the unknown and went along to the first meeting. And here I am, several months later, still very much part of the happiness group gang!
What do we do while we are there? Well we sit in a lovely little independent cafe drinking tea, eating cake and chatting. Oh and we laugh.... A lot! Each month we focus the meeting on something different - whether that's books or films that make us happy or, as was the case in the last meeting, trying our hand at a bit of positive EFT (emotional freedom technique). The range of topics we chat about and little exercises we do during a meeting varies greatly. But I can tell you one thing that doesn't change - I always come away from a meeting smiling and feeling a little brighter within myself. There's such a sense of community within the group; something that's quite rare these days.
So if you are reading this and are feeling even the teensiest bit curious about what a happiness group is, come along and see for yourself! New members are always given a very warm welcome.
